my public lands

On today’s Summer Bucket List series, we recommend rafting Ruby-Horsethief on the Colorado River for its unforgettable red rock canyons and natural arches.

BLM Colorado’s McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area is home to the second-largest concentration of natural arches in North America, is intersected by 25 miles of the Colorado River as it winds its way through magnificent red-rock canyon country.

The Ruby-Horsethief section of the Colorado River in McInnis Canyons runs from Loma, Colorado, to Westwater, Utah, and is mostly flat water, with some Class I and Class II sections, depending on stream flow.  Boaters can camp at 35 permitted campsites, with easy access to day hiking from many of the campgrounds.  Herons, eagles, falcons, bighorn sheep and other wildlife are abundant.

For more information, visit the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area Website: http://blm.gov/b8kd.
